v0.4.1: Alpha Ready

v0.4.0 was a complete rewrite. v0.4.1 is when it actually started working reliably. 121 commits later, it's finally stable enough to recommend trying.

Let's Be Honest

A month ago, I released v0.4.0—a complete ground-up rewrite of Remember This. New platform (Tauri v2), new architecture (Rust + Swift + Svelte), 92% smaller bundle, native macOS performance. It was ambitious.

It was also, frankly, rough around the edges.

If you tried v0.4.0 and bounced off—I get it. That's on me.

v0.4.1 is the release where those sharp edges got filed down. 121 commits of fixes, polish, and a few new features. The kind of work that's invisible when it's done right: things just work now.

What's New

Beyond the stability fixes, I added a few genuinely useful things:

Auto-Updates

Check for Updates in Settings, auto-checks on startup, download progress with auto-restart. No more manually downloading DMGs.

In-App Voice Recording

Record voice memos directly in the app. They get transcribed automatically. Quick thoughts without switching to Apple Voice Memos.

Multi-Apple-ID Support

Photos from multiple Apple IDs (work + personal, family sharing) now get handled properly.

Why This Version Matters

I've been hesitant to recommend Remember This to people. Not because the vision is wrong, but because hitting bugs in the first 5 minutes is a terrible first impression.

v0.4.1 is the first version I'm comfortable saying: try it.

It's still alpha software. There will still be bugs. But now it's the kind of alpha where you can actually use it daily and get value from it, not the kind where you spend more time fighting the tool than using it.

What's Next

The foundation is solid now. Next priority is Review Mode—a proper UI for triaging and acting on captured assets, instead of just watching them pile up.

Beyond that, I'm learning from how people actually use v0.4.x. Some assumptions I made will need adjusting. The goal is to focus on what's actually useful, not just what's technically impressive.

The vision hasn't changed: make AI actually useful by giving it context about your life. But the path there is becoming clearer.

Try It

Remember This is free. Your data stays local.

If you've been waiting for "stable enough to try"—this is that version.

macOS 15+ required. Apple Silicon only.
